STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) areas are becoming very popular today, and are gaining momentum among young people. More and more students are deciding to study science in these areas, because they are very promising in our country and beyond. Aware of the importance that science has in our lives, in the student dormitory “Prof. dr. Fikret Hadžić” we solemnly organized a scientific event called Ilidža STEM Day, in the format of a mini-conference and a series of lectures from various fields of science, from genetics to data science.

This is the second time that our activists, in cooperation with the Foundation’s management, organized an event of this type, and we organized it for the first time in June this year. This time the event was attended by activists, scholarship holders, alumni and representatives of the Foundation’s board of directors, as well as numerous students from local universities and other foundations and organizations.

Lessons in the field of science and engineering were held by four speakers on the following topics:

1. Prof. dr. Adnan Novalić – Professor of Architecture @International Burch University – Man and Living Space

2. Nedim Sladić – Young and populist meteorologist @Nova BH – Weather forecasting methods: How to get a weather forecast?

3. Anela Zorlak – genetic advisor and entrepreneur – Genetic counseling / testing-clinical application

4. Ena Žunić – Ćejvanović – Data Scientist @Ministry of Programming – Data Science and Interdisciplinarity: From CERN to Genomics

We are especially pleased with the active interaction of the speakers with the audience and the interest that the students showed by asking questions to each of the lecturers. Attendees were also able to enjoy the beautiful musical performances of our activists Lejla Čehić and Iman Ahmić, who refreshed us during the break between lectures.

After the formal part of the event, the attendees had the opportunity to get to know the lecturers through informal conversation and snacks, but also with each other. This event was organized by our activists Nermin Đuzić, Ajdin Bajrić and Amila Buljina. “First of all, I would like to thank our wonderful lecturers who did their best to present their topics in the best possible light. As one of the organizers of this conference, I am especially proud of the team of volunteers who were there to help, as well as my colleagues Ajdin and Nermin who worked with me on the organization over the past few weeks. The positive stories and smiles we witnessed at this event are one of the results of our work and we are very happy that we met the expectations of the audience as well as those who followed us online through social networks.
