On this day, July 20th, 2018, Fikret Hadžić, PhD, a professor at the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo and one of the founders of the Foundation “Source of Hope”, passed away.

During his lifetime, he established numerous university courses and wrote books, articles and case studies not only in the field of banking, but also in the area of Islamic banking and finance.

He devised and administrated the Department of Islamic Banking and Finance at the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo, and founded the Center for Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance, as well as the European Association for Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance. He was acknowledged as a world-class expert in the aforementioned fields, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and around the world.

In memory of the contribution he made to the work of the Foundation “Source of Hope”, the Foundation administration, during 2019, renamed the Student dormitory “Source of Hope” to Student dormitory “Prof. Dr. Fikret Hadžić”.

Hadžić made an immeasurable contribution to the work of the Foundation and the functioning of the Student dormitory. He was one of the founders of the Foundation “Source of Hope”, a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation and Student dormitory, a benefactor of the Student dormitory and a donor of the Foundation, and the initiator of the campaign “Iftari” and numerous other activities which resulted in the betterment of work conducted by the Foundation and Student dormitory.

The headstone with the name of the deceased Hadžić was unveiled by the members of his family, his wife Selveta and daughters Anesa and Nejla, and Eldin Kunto, Chairman of the Board of Directors, on behalf of the Foundation.

“On behalf of the Hadžić family, I wish to thank the dear friends of the Foundation “Source of Hope” who made a decision to rename this student dormitory as a sign of remembrance, love and respect towards our father and husband”, said Nejla Hadžić, daughter of the deceased Hadžić.

“Hadžić was a person of a cheerful spirit, a philanthropist who sought to inspire others to do good through his actions. We are immensely grateful to God to have had the chance to meet and work with Prof. Hadžić on numerous projects we realized through the Foundation “Source of Hope”. We are happy that the student dormitory is named after Prof. Hadžić”, said Tarik Agetović, director of the Foundation “Source of Hope”.

We remind you, Hadžić passed away on this day, July 20th, 2018, after a brief illness, at 59 years of age.
